Fire Safety
Fires occurring in the workplace lead to loss of life, injuries and serious financial consequences. Even in small fires, where there is no loss of life or injury experienced, the damage caused can have significant impact on your business such as:
- Cessation of trade resulting in the loss of contracts and possible business failure
- Smoke and water used for fire fighting can cause significant damage and clean up costs can be substantial
- Important information may be lost
- Many companies fail to re-open following a fire despite having reasonable insurance
Effective Fire Safety arrangements in the workplace are therefore essential and one principal piece of legislation now covers this:
On 1 October 2006 The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 replaced the following legislation:
- The Fire Precautions Act 1971
- The Fire Precautions (Workplace) (Amendment) Regulations 1999
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order is a reform of all previous fire safety legislation. It has abolished Fire Certificates and now requires the ‘responsible person’ for each property to have a Fire Risk Assessment in place and to take steps to remove or reduce the risk to anyone in or around the premises.
Centec Health, Safety and Fire Safety experts provide effective solutions for compliance with current and imminent changes to legislation.
